Concrete Stair Case Project

PROJECTS AND TESTIMONIAL

XYZ BUILDING , Spinningfields , Manchester

The XYZ Building (formerly The Cotton Building) is a significant part of Manchester’s Spinningfields business district.

The £22 million redevelopment, designed by Cartwright Pickard and constructed by McLaren Group, will provide 160 000 sq ft of commercial space with a further 30 000 sq ft of public amenity space.

Topflight Precast provided the feature staircases for the 7 storey building, linking the levels with a mixture of flowing design and style.

Curved Staircase Installation

Fleur McDonnell,

This client’s project enabled us to push the boundaries in mould design to see how far we could defy gravity in our casting method. The farthest we had stretched a curved mould prior to this was 110°. This stair was 190°. The twist in the mould was so severe that it was impractical to fix supports, a good solution was found to encase the mould in concrete supporting it all round.

Bespoke Precast Stairs

We were pleased to be involved with this client on this project.  Szerelmey are renowned for their expertise in working with stone.  Indeed they were responsible for carrying out the latest refurbishment of the stone façade that is The Houses of Parliament.

Curved Bespoke Staircase

West Craig, Strathblane

This project was an enjoyable challenge. This was a 10 ton stair with an upstand to carry a curved glass balustrade (supplied and fitted by Fineline Balustrades).  The remit included a shadow gap inside and outside of the upstand, running from the base of the stair up and around the matching balcony units, accuracy was key as any discrepancy would be obvious at each intersection.
